Zoe

I wanted to pick just one picture and tell the story of just that one day/event/outing with Zoe, but there were just too many pictures and too many stories. Here are smattering of images of our life together. You'll notice that W and I look mighty young in some of these pics. She lived a good, long life (14 years) and I'm so glad she lived them with me.

Well, it has been a rough few days. What is strange is that people keep asking me how the kids are taking it. The kids are fine. It's the parents that are a wreck! The kids are incredibly matter-of-fact about it. They look at us like we strange as we steal away to our room to hug and cry every so often.

When I told them, I teared up. O asked why and I told him I would miss her and that I was sad. When I teared up a little later as we were getting dressed to play outside (and yes, Zoe loved the snow), he looked at me like "What, you already cried once, what's the matter with you?" Um, yeah... had the dog way longer than you've even been alive, kid. I've got lots of tears for her.

For me, it was a given that you guys would be a wreck because I've been there. Kids are so weird, though. Evan was about 5 or 6 when my cat died. He was totally matter-of-fact about it. If I remember correctly, it seemed like when I told him he said "Good!". So, glad to know that your kids seem just about as blase as mine. That makes my kid's emotional detachment look more like a normal kid thing and less like an indicator of future serial killerness.
